Location of Saal in Bergisch Gladbach

Saal is a district in the Lückerath district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The place name Saal refers to the high medieval settlement of Haus Saal , which belonged to the Bensberg tax authorities in the tax, lease and tribute lists of 1487 . Saal is derived from the Old High German salida / selida (= house, hut, apartment).

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Porz , proves that the residential area was categorized as Freihof in 1715 and was named Sahl .

Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as a hall . It shows that at that time, Saal was part of the Refrath honor in the parish of Bensberg .

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813, the Porz office was dissolved and Saal was politically assigned to Mairie Bensberg in the canton of Bensberg . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and on the Prussian first survey from 1840 as Saaler Mühle . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, it is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Saal , Saaler Mühle or without a name.

Due to the Cologne Act , the city of Bensberg was merged with Bergisch Gladbach to form the city of Bergisch Gladbach with effect from January 1, 1975. The hall also became part of Bergisch Gladbach.
