Frankenforst is a district of Bergisch Gladbach and belongs to the statistics district 6 of the city under No. 64.
Brief description
Frankenforst is traditionally the preferred place to live. A distinction is made between old Franconian forest and new Franconian forest. In the "old" Franconian Forest, a park settlement with some larger villas was built around 1900. Since the 1920s, the "new" Franconian Forest has developed to the west of the original, in which one can also find buildings with row houses. After the Second World War , a larger industrial area was created between Kölner Strasse and Brüderstrasse . The Federal Highway Research Institute is also located here. In the extreme south-western tip of the district, a settlement with high-rise buildings and apartment buildings has formed since the 1960s.
Those looking for relaxation are drawn to the Königsforst nature reserve bordering to the south and the facilities of the Saaler Mühle recreation park to the north .
Monument protection
In 2010 the city of Bergisch Gladbach issued a memorial area statute for the Alt-Frankenforst settlement . There are also individual listed buildings within the settlement. The parish church of St. Maria Königin Frankenforst is also registered as architectural monument no. 178 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
