history

The Catholic parish church of St. Maria Königin was built between 1954 and 1955 together with the rectory and youth home in Frankenforst according to plans by the architect Bernhard Rotterdam . The tower was completed in 1957.

Profanation

The church of St. Maria Königin is badly affected by mold and needs to be renovated. Because the mold poses a health risk, it can no longer be entered. Corresponding notices have been attached to the entrance doors. In addition, the parish had already decided in 2008 to relocate its focus to the new parish center St. Johann-Baptist in Refrath due to the decline in the use of the church space for church services, communion and confirmation. For these reasons, the Archdiocese of Cologne plans to profane the church building . There are conflicting parties. Some refer to the high costs, others to the building's worth as a monument.
