Sand is a district of Bergisch Gladbach and belongs to statistical district 3 of the city under No. 33.

history

The first mention of sand can be found in document 4 of 1229 of the Meer monastery . The church village Sand is one of the earliest settlement centers in the urban area of ​​Bergisch Gladbach and was first mentioned in documents in 1349 in the form of "van me Sande" . The creation of the Sander Hof in the early Middle Ages probably coincided with the establishment of an own church. The most famous pastor of Sand was Johann Peter Ommerborn , the so-called hero of Ommerborn. The founding of the settlement was named after the natural location, i.e. after the sandy soil conditions of the Bergisch heath sand strip.
