Johann Peter Ommerborn (born January 1, 1762 in Ommerborn , † February 10, 1837 in Sand ) was a German Catholic pastor and freedom fighter in the coalition wars . He was also known as the hero of the Ommerborn .

Life

Ommerborn came from a family that ran a camera property in the town of the same name . After a humanistic education in the monastery of the Franciscans in Wipperfurth he was in 1788 in Cologne ordained. He then took over a chaplaincy in Offermannsheide . When the French occupied the Bergisches Land in 1795 , he and other like-minded comrades made the decision to rise up against the "strangers" who were plundering through the country under the direction of Ferdinand Stucker . After having suffered a defeat in the battle on the Hohnsberg , he initially accompanied the imperial army as a field preacher . He was called heroes pastor everywhere . In 1797 Ommerborn was given a pastor's post in Frielingsdorf . From 1826 he became a pastor in Sand.

He was buried in the old churchyard in Sand . His grave is adorned with a tombstone.

The old rectory built by Pastor Ommerborn is listed as a monument under No. 33 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
