Rochus chapel sand
The Rochus Chapel Sand is located in the Sand district of Bergisch Gladbach in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis . It is dedicated to Saint Roch of Montpellier , who is considered the patron saint of plague sufferers.
history
The Rochus Chapel dates from the 17th century. When the plague raged in the Bergisches Land until around 1679, this was the reason for Baron Philipp von Leers at Haus Lerbach to donate this chapel. It stands on Herkenrather Straße on a hill between Sand and Herkenrath .
It is a small single-nave building with a slated hipped roof and a porch. There are two arched windows on three sides. The entrance consists of a double-leaf nailed wooden door. Inside it has a flat, round ceiling and a sandstone floor . After it was renewed in the 19th century, repairs had to be carried out again in 1960/61.
It is considered a model for the pump house in the Alte Dombach as well as for the Sankt Barbara chapel in Hellenthal , which recently received a true-to-scale replica in the LVR open-air museum in Lindlar .
monument
The Rochus Chapel Sand is registered as monument no. 99 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
