from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Bendel (born September 10, 1863 in Zweifall ; † July 19, 1947 in Cologne-Mülheim ) was a teacher and historian.

Life

Bendel attended the teachers' college in Kornelimünster from September 1882 to July 1885 . He then began his teaching career at the village school in Weywertz (large community of Bütgenbach ) and in 1889 switched to the one-class village school in Raeren . In 1890 he passed the secondary school teacher examination in education, history and religion with a subsequent rector examination. In 1897 he became the main teacher in Stolberg . From 1902 he was rector of the newly built Pestalozzi School in Mülheim am Rhein, which was one of the most modern elementary schools in its time. On November 20, 1990, the secondary school that had meanwhile moved into the building was renamed in his name. On October 1, 1928, he retired.

In 1893 he married his wife Maria Schumacher, who died on July 10, 1921.

Especially his books about the city and the district of Mülheim, which were published in 1911 and 1925, also in numerous facsimile editions, served as the basis for local history lessons in schools until the 1970s and are still a valuable source of Mülheim and Bergisch history .
