The Former Powder Mill IV of good ship was one of the powder mills of good ship . It is located southwest of Gut Schiff at the inlet of the former Umbach in the Strunde in the urban area of Sand from Bergisch Gladbach . When the mill was still in operation, it was called the dust mill .

Ground monument

The ground monument of the former powder mill IV from Gut Schiff has been preserved with individual parts of the foundation masonry made of rubble and parts of the protective wall in a rectangular area as well as the inlet ditch, which is almost completely filled with earth and overgrown with trees. The ground monument also includes a ditch, which can be seen as a remnant of the artificial water inlet and outlet. It runs parallel to the northwest bank of the Strunde . The former powder mill was entered as ground monument No. 12 in the list of ground monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The Cologne councilor and merchant Wilhelm Josef Wecus was already the owner of the Locher Mühle when he bought the Schiff estate in 1761. On September 25, 1762 he received permission to build the first powder mill . For the operation of the mill he had a long umbach built with space for more mills. By occurring in wetland Strunde buckthorn was enough raw material for an extensive black powder production exists.

The powder mill IV in question was built in 1765 as a second mill with the name "Dust Mills" . Around 1850 both powder mills came into the possession of Theodor Eyberg . He had two more mills built. In 1910 powder production was stopped in all four mills. Over the years, all traces have disappeared with the exception of the relics of the dust mill mentioned here.

Regional 2010

As part of the Regionale 2010 project , volunteers cleared the area of ​​the dust mill of wood and leaves and exposed the ground monument at the beginning of 2012. Later wooden steps were built up the slope to the monument from the hiking trail on the brook bottom. At the same time, a specialist company stabilized the broken stones with lime mortar . In addition, an information board was set up.
