Michael Werling

Michael Werling (born September 11, 1950 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German architect , university professor and monument conservator .

Life

Michael Werling studied architecture at the Mainz Engineering School and the Technical University of Karlsruhe . He then worked for Gerd Volker Heene as a research assistant at the chair for industrialized and industrial construction at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern . In 1984 he did his doctorate at this university under Martin Graßnick and Hartmut Hofrichter with the thesis The building history of the former Otterberg abbey church with special attention to its stonemason marks . From 1983 to 1985 he worked as a freelance architect. From 1985 to 1990 he was responsible for the preservation of urban monuments as a conservator at the Hanover district government . In 1990 he was appointed professor for building history, urban history and design at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. From 2002 to 2006, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at this university . Since 2002 he has been deputy director of the Institute for Building History and Monument Preservation and from 2012 until his retirement in 2016 he was a member of the Senate of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Since 2017 he has been chairman of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein Rhein-Berg eV , Rhein-Berg department and responsible for the preservation of monuments in the entire association.

Michael Werling is married and has four children. He has lived in Bergisch Gladbach since 1990 .
