Nussbaum is the district No. 13 of Bergisch Gladbach and belongs to the statistics district 1 of the city.

history

Nussbaum was founded in the late Middle Ages and was recorded in the original cadastre north of Paffrath . By the 18th century Nussbaum developed into a hamlet, which around 1790 made up the largest settlement in the municipality of Paffrath with 17 farms. The name is documented for the first time in 1448 in the form "Nusboem" and is named from 1586 in today's spelling.

Mining

Relics of medieval mining and corresponding traces of iron mining have been found in the vicinity of Nussbaum . In the 19th and early 20th centuries there were several mining operations here that were loaned out to iron. The most important mine was the Eduard & Amalia mine . Today the so-called “green pond” is located here.

According to the EDP population register, on June 30, 2017, Nussbaum was one of the smallest districts with a total of 1,117 residents (53 of them foreigners). The age group over 65 years with 217 inhabitants (including 4 foreigners) was stronger than the age group under 18 years with only 192 inhabitants (including 6 foreigners).
