Alexander Friedmann (born May 8, 1838 in Pest , Kingdom of Hungary , † February 22, 1882 in Vienna ) was a Viennese industrialist, councilor and member of the state parliament.

Life

His parents were the businessman Heinrich Friedmann and Johanna. He and his brothers Dubi and Siegwart Friedmann (1842–1916; born as Samuel ; later actor and co-founder of the German Theater in Berlin) grew up in modest circumstances in Budapest.

In 1860 he went to Paris. In 1862, after his father's death, he returned to Austria, where he had the prospect of a job at the railway to be close to his mother.

His sons were Louis Philipp Friedmann , Emil (* 1863) and Max (* 1864 in Reschitza in the Banat; industrialist, politician, fencer.)

In May 1864 he had a job in Majdanpek (later Yugoslavia), but in the same year he finally returned to Vienna, where his sons attended the Academic Gymnasium. In 1867 he was baptized and his sons.

In 1868 Giffard 's injector (steam jet pump, feed device for steam boilers) was improved , received an imperial privilege and the next year Ernst Körting hired as a sales engineer who was to introduce it in Italy and England. Since Friedmann did not develop it further, Körting did so and acquired a patent in the same year.

In 1871 he founded his armature factory Alex in Leopoldstadt Am Tabor 6 . Friedmann and had sales offices in England, USA and Russia as early as the mid-1870s.

In 1875 he moved to the Vienna City Council as a member of the 2nd district and became an opponent of Mayor Cajetan von Felder . He was a member of the House of Representatives: October 1879 to November 1881 in the Liberal Club and then briefly with the United Left . He was one of the first local councilors to develop a water pipe system for Vienna.

Friedmann is buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 15E, crypt no.3)

The Friedmanngasse in Ottakring was named in 1882 after him.
