history

Parish Church of St. Joseph in Heidkamp

The Heidkamp settlement emerged from an early modern farm that was first documented in 1582 as "am Heidkamp". Due to the onset of industrialization, the former "Heidkamps Gut" developed into a larger settlement, from which the districts of Unter-, Mittel- and Oberheidkamp were formed around 1830. A total of 120 residents were counted here in 1858. The original cadastre mentions the larger settlement “Mittel Heidkamp” on both sides of the old “road from Gladbach to Bensberg”. "Unter Heidkamp" is listed as being west and "Ober Heidkamp" as being east of Bensberger Strasse. The name of the settlement Heidkamp (= Kamp / Feld in der Heide) characterizes the topographical location on the Bergisch Heidesandstrip. The Heidkamp residential area was expanded in 1975 to include the part of the Gronau forest settlement , which previously belonged to Gronau . The Zinkhütte industrial park offers many people jobs. The company Krüger GmbH & Co. KG is located here

Mining

The lignite route still reminds us today that lignite has been mined here for centuries, especially for the many lime kilns.

population

According to the EDP population register, Heidkamp had a total of 6,362 residents on June 30, 2017 (including 1,018 foreigners), making it one of the most populous districts of the city of Bergisch Gladbach . The age group over 65 with 1,360 inhabitants (including 111 foreigners) was stronger than the age group under 18 with only 1,055 (including 149 foreigners).

Religions

  • Lindlar greywacke was mainly used in the construction of the bulky-looking Catholic Church of St. Joseph . This gives the building a strong, resistant character.
  • The Protestant Christians have been visiting the old, formerly Catholic parish church since the completion of the new church.
