Romaney is a district of Bergisch Gladbach and belongs under No. 31 to the statistics district 3 of the city.

history

The village of Romaney is a section of Romaneyer Straße, which leads from Odenthaler Straße in Hebborn to the city limits on Alte Wipperfürther Straße in the municipality of Kürten . The street name refers to the hamlet of Romaney, which is recorded in the original cadastre on both sides of the old "road from Mülheim to Wipperfürth" . Romaney emerged from a presumably late medieval settlement that was first mentioned in 1448 as "Rumenye" . The settlement seems to have been abandoned around 1450. In the first half of the 16th century the farm was listed as a feudal estate of the Strauweiler lordship in Odenthal . By the early 20th century, the farm had developed into a small hamlet with six farms and 34 inhabitants.

In the area around Romaney in the middle of the 19th century several pits were lent for the extraction of iron ore. The two largest were Grube Albert, awarded on May 22, 1849, and Grube Prinz Wilhelm, awarded on September 21, 1848.

population

According to the EDP population register, Romaney had a total of 676 residents on June 30, 2017 (39 of them foreigners) and is therefore one of the least populated districts of the city of Bergisch Gladbach . The age group over 65 with 209 inhabitants (including 9 foreigners) was significantly stronger than the age group under 18 with only 100 inhabitants (including 4 foreigners).
