Location of An den Warden in Bergisch Gladbach |
An den Warden is a district in the Heidkamp district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name An den Warden refers to the settlement name An der Warden , which was first mentioned in 1666. In the original cadastre it is recorded as An der Waarden in the area of today's street.
etymology
The Won name Warden is derived from the old- and Middle High German waiting (= wait, wait on) her, referring probably to a rest stop on the historic Reuterstraße. As this short stretch climbed steeply east of the Warden farm towards Bensberg , the riders and carters waited here for a while to take a break before the ascent. Another interpretation leads the name back to a military spy post, a "control room" that was posted here.
