history

Willibert Krüger , entrepreneur and managing partner (until the end of 2012), opened up a market niche in 1971 with the instantization of lemon tea . With the new technology in the 1970s, Krüger became one of the largest providers of instant products in Europe. Krüger expands its portfolio to include further food and luxury food products.

By supplying discounters, namely Aldi , all over the world, Krüger has so far been able to generate continuous growth.

The Milchwerke Mittelelbe (formerly VEB Dauermilchwerke Stendal) were taken over in 1991.

Since 2009, Krüger has gradually acquired Fuchs & Hoffmann GmbH in Bexbach, a manufacturer of semi-finished cocoa products, from the WAWI Group .

Coffee capsule system

Krüger sells its own coffee capsule system called K-fee .

In September 2012 it was announced that Krüger had entered into a strategic alliance with the Starbucks Corporation. Krüger supplies Starbucks with a coffee capsule system called the Verismo System and matching capsules. Around 50 million euros will be invested and 300 jobs will be created. In October 2013, the discounter Aldi brought out a coffee capsule machine from Krüger under the sales name "Expressi". Starbucks capsules can also be used in the Expressi machine. Krüger also sells its own range of matching capsules for capsule machines from the K-fee system under the brand name “Espresto”.

criticism

In October 2011, the German Federal Cartel Office and Kraft Foods Germany fined the company with a fine of nine million euros. According to the Federal Cartel Office, at the turn of the year 2007/2008 the two companies agreed on a price increase for family cappuccinos. Krüger GmbH & Co. KG and a senior employee had appealed. The appeals were withdrawn in September 2014 shortly before the trial. The company was sentenced to a cartel fine of around 9 million euros. The fine proceedings were initiated at the request of Melitta Kaffee GmbH from Bremen, which acted as a key witness and therefore did not have to pay a fine.
