Trumpf Chocolate is a chocolate brand that is manufactured by Ludwig Schokolade GmbH & Co. KG; Ludwig Schokolade, in turn, belongs to the Krüger Group based in Bergisch Gladbach .
history
In 1857 Leonard Monheim started producing chocolate at the chicken market in Aachen . In the same year he hired an Italian chocolatier to make chocolate by hand. The changeover to machine production in 1865 made it possible to expand the customer base. In 1903 production was started in Aachen-Süsterfeld under the direction of Hermann Joseph Monheim.
After the First World War , Aachen was occupied by the Allies . In order to be able to supply customers on the right bank of the Rhine without restrictions, the sons of Hermann Joseph Monheim received the order to build a chocolate factory in Berlin-Weißensee , which went into operation in 1921. After the Second World War , the Trumpf chocolate factory in Weißensee was forcibly expropriated and initially continued as VEB Trumpf until 1954, before it merged into the VEB Elfe Berliner Schokoladenwerk , under which the Gustav Cyliax chocolate factory in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, which was also nationalized , was operated.
In 1936 a license agreement for production in Germany was signed with Lindt & Sprüngli . In 1951 production started in Quickborn . After marrying Irene Monheim in 1951, Peter Ludwig joined the company management. In 1958, the Mauxion brand name was taken over by Leonhard Monheim AG after the Mauxion chocolate factory in Saalfeld had been expropriated in 1948 and continued as a state-owned company (VEB). The Hüther family, who fled to West Germany, were granted naming rights in 1954. The company in the GDR received the name Rotstern from 1955 .
In 1960 Leonard Monheim's great-grandson Bernd Monheim joined the family company Leonard Monheim KG as a personally liable partner and managing director . In 1979 he became a board member there and was a member of the board until the group of companies was partially sold to Chocolat Suchard (now Mondelēz International ).
Since 1986 the company has been operating as Ludwig Schokolade GmbH & Co. KG , which was incorporated into the Krüger Group in 1998 .
Aerial advertising
In 1924 Monheim AG began to fly advertising for Trumpf with aircraft. In 1929 two advertising airships were added, the Parseval D-PN 28 and the (Parseval) Raab-Katzenstein RK 27 . In the fall of 1955, the Trumpf factory began building a small airship, which made its maiden voyage on November 24, 1956 , but was lost in 1957. The airship with the designation D-LEDA was an impact airship 57 m long, 13.6 m in diameter and 5120 m³ . In 1958, Zeppelin built a new advertising airship for Trumpf in Friedrichshafen , which was in use until 1972.
