According to its own information, Wawi produces 25 million Advent calendars and around ten million chocolate Santa Clauses every year.

history

Walter Müller Sen. founded a confectionery shop in Zweibrücken in 1957 , which was later followed by six other branches in the Palatinate . The company name Wawi was originally the nickname given by the company's founder's wife to her husband. In the 1950s and 1960s the company grew with the production of hollow figures (Easter bunnies and Santa Clauses). 1967 the own specialty stores were given up. The two sons Jürgen and Walter Müller took over the management in 1983 and expanded the company with the new location for the recently started production of puffed rice chocolate in Münchweiler an der Rodalb .

In the mid-1990s, the company began expanding outside of Germany. In 1994 the first production facility started in Xiamen (China). In 1996, Montreal (Canada) followed, in 1998 further locations in Melbourne (Australia) and St. Petersburg ( Russia ). In 2009 the factory in Satu Mare (Romania) was opened. Since 1996 the company Fuchs & Hoffmann in Bexbach has also belonged to the WAWI-Group as part of a participation.

In the old factory building in Pirmasens, since 2004, visitors have been able to watch the production and decoration of Santa Clauses and Easter bunnies in the Transparent Production, which also includes a factory outlet, museum and cafeteria.

In 2007 WAWI-Euro GmbH took over the distribution of the two brands Nappo - Holländischer Nougat and Moritz Eiskonfekt, which are produced by Nappo & Moritz GmbH in Krefeld on the Lower Rhine. Since 2009 and 2010, the shares in Fuchs & Hoffmann GmbH have been successively sold to the Krüger Group . Since 2010, WAWI has had a minority stake in the company Coppeneur et Compagnon in Bad Honnef , a manufacturer of high-quality pralines, truffles and chocolates. In 2011, Andreas Nickenig joined Walter Müller on the board of WAWI AG.

Since 2013, the group has presented itself with a new look as The WAWI-Group, which was followed by a relaunch with repositioning of the WAWI brand. The WAWI brand stands for natural and light chocolate enjoyment with cereals and without artificial additives .

Since March 1, 2018, Richard Müller has been the new board member of Wawi Schokolade AG alongside his father Walter Müller.
