Schlangenhöfchen is a district in the Frankenforst district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
Schlangenhofchen was a small farm that arose in the second half of the 19th century. At that time, a striking number of reptiles were allegedly observed in the area. In 1903 the Bergische Zünderfabrik was built here, initially employing 15 workers manufacturing electric mine detonators. It was a subsidiary of the Lustheide dynamite factory, which was owned by the Hamburg explosives company Kosmos. The latter was located on the site of the Consolidated Catharina II mine . During the Second World War , a prison camp with 60–80 mostly French prisoners of war was set up in Schlangenhöfchen.
