Immekeppel is a district of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia . It is in the Sülztal .

history

Immekeppel was first mentioned in 1166 as Sulsen . The place was renamed for unknown reasons, the new name Ymmin kappelin was first recorded in 1309 .

When the Premonstratensian convent in Meer bei Büderich was founded , Countess Hildegund von Meer u. a. the Sulsen estate, inherited from her father, Count Hermann von Liedberg, is owned by the monastery. In this way, Sulsen and Achera had also become part of a spiritual manor. Sulsen originally belonged to the clearing area of ​​the Lords von Meer, which stretched from Refrath to the Sülz. Decisive for the later affiliation of Immekeppel was the progressive development of the Bergischen counts, the bailiwick rights of the Cologne archbishops and monasteries, the monasteries Deutz and Siegburg. Immekeppel counted in the Duchy of Berg administratively and judicially to the office of Bensberg and Porz , while Overath belonged to the office of Steinbach . Immekeppel was subordinate to the Herkenrath messenger office and was divided into the three honors Immekeppel , Altenbrück and Külheim .

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Portz , shows the church village under the name Immekepel . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names him on his chart of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Imekeppel . It emerges from it that the place was titular place of the parish Immekeppel at that time.

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1817 as Immekeppel , as well as on the Prussian first recording from 1845. From the Prussian new recording of 1892, the place is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Immekeppel .

In 1822, a total of 73 people lived in the village, which was categorized as a village, farm and mill, and after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement, it belonged to the mayor's office of Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district . For the year 1830 a parish church and 69 inhabitants are given for Immekeppel. The town, which was categorized as a church village, courtyard and mill, according to the overview of the government district of Cologne in 1845 , had five residential buildings with 58 inhabitants at that time, 51 of which were Catholic and seven Protestant.

The municipal and Gutbezirksstatistik the Rhine Province leads Immekeppel 1871 with 21 houses and 216 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland from 1888, 27 houses with 185 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had 30 houses with 210 inhabitants and was still denominationally the parish of the Catholic parish of the same name, in 1905 35 houses and 288 inhabitants are given.

Before 1975 the place belonged to the formerly independent town of Bensberg . In the course of the municipal reorganization , the place became part of the city (then municipality) of Overath on January 1, 1975 in accordance with § 10 Cologne Act .

Mining

Already in the High Middle Ages, lead was being mined in the entire area around Immekeppel for the construction of Cologne Cathedral and Altenberg Cathedral. Mining has been securitized since the middle of the 19th century, especially for the apple and Columbus pits , whose rich zinc and lead ores were washed out in the processing plant of what is still known as the Immekeppeler Hütte. The ores from the Lüderich mine were added at times . The AG des Altenbergs had its headquarters here until 1897.
