history

Miebach was first mentioned in the 13th century as Meitbech .

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Steinbach , shows that the living space had four farms as early as 1715, which are labeled as Miebach . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Miebach . It emerges from it that the place was titular place of the Honschaft Miebach in the parish of Overath at that time .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 as Obermiebach . The Prussian first recording from 1845 shows the residential area under the name Ober Miebach . From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is regularly on measurement table sheets as Obr. Miebach or Obermiebach recorded.

In 1822 63 people lived in the place categorized as a court and designated Ober-Mibach , which after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . For the year 1830 126 inhabitants are given for Ober- and Untermibach . The town, which was categorized as a village and designated Ober-Mibach in 1845 according to the overview of the government district of Cologne , had eleven residential buildings with 63 inhabitants, all of them Catholic denominations. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine province lists Obermiebach in 1871 with twelve houses and 75 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, 12 houses with 70 inhabitants are given for Ober Miebach . In 1895 the place had twelve houses with 60 inhabitants, in 1905 13 houses and 69 inhabitants are given. The Overather house numbering register from 1907 lists twelve houses in Obermiebach, five of which are owned by Countess v. Nesselrode . Other owners: Peter Höfer, Johann Krieger, Reinhard Reuber, J. Roth (Wtwe) and Jochen Roth

The initiative to build a chapel in Vilkerath arose in Obermiebach. In 1879 Theodor Wermelskirchen founded a “Kirchbauverein Vilkerath” here, but it wasn't until 1894 that the chapel was built. It soon turned out to be too small and so a larger church was built in 1952 on the former building site, to which a large tower was added in 1958.
