The Marialinder Riedelland is, according to the manual of the natural spatial structure of Germany, a natural spatial unit with the order number 338.43 and belongs to the higher-level natural area 338.4 ( Agger-Sülz plateaus ). It encompasses the part of the Overath urban area to the east and south of the Agger with the Marialinden district in the center of the natural area, the northwestern municipal area of Much around Quellenbach , a northern tip of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid around the Mohlscheid district , the northeast of Lohmar around the Neuhonrath district and the southwest edge of Engelskirchen .

The Marialinder Riedelland borders in the north and west on the Overrather Aggertal (order number 338.42), in the south on the Wahn plateau ( 339.62), in the southeast on the Mucher plateau (338.5) and in the east on the Heckberger Wald (339.3).

It is a plateau that has a height of 180 to 250 m and merges sharply in the north and west into the deeply cut valley of the Agger and in the south into the Mucher plateau. The plateau is cut up by numerous side valleys that drain to the Agger, whereby the Naafbach is probably the most water-rich tributary in the natural area. The folding body of Paleozoic rocks is the great Taldichte in numerous individual different widths and high Riedel and wooded ravines , regional Siefen called structured. A larger coherent agricultural use is therefore only given on the remains of the plateau southwest and northeast of Marialinden.

Most of the wooded areas in the valley basins have been pushed back and replaced by scattered rural settlements. As in other parts of the Agger- Sülz area, the Riedel and Gorge system is the result of intense deep erosion that is still progressing today .
