geography
course
The Naafbach, which runs in the Bergisches Land and Bergisches Land Nature Park , arises in the southern foothills of the Heckberg Forest (Heck) from two source streams:
- The western source stream (0.8 km long), to which the Naafbach kilometering of almost 22.7 km in length refers, rises in the Rheinisch-Bergischen district on the southeast flank of the Kleiner Heckberg ( 348.1 m above sea level ). Its source is located in the district of Overath between the village Federath, which is not far to the west, and Hof Siebelsnaaf, which is about 580 m southeast, at an altitude of about 312 m . Leaving the forest area of its origin, it flows south-south-east to Abelsnaaf , to unite with the eastern source stream to Naafbach.
- The eastern source stream (0.9 km long) rises on the border of the Rheinisch-Bergischen-Kreis to the east Rhein-Sieg-Kreis in the transition area of the southern flanks of the Kleiner Heckberg to the Heckberg ( 383.4 m ). Its origin lies on the border of the Overath and Much districts between the Siebelsnaaf farm in the west, the hamlet of Esinghausen in the east and the village of Heckhaus at an altitude of around 320 m . Leaving the edge of the forest at its source and taking up the Neverbach, it flows southwest to Abelsnaaf to unite with the western source stream to form the Naafbach.
From then on, the Naafbach runs primarily along the border with the Rhein-Sieg district to the southwest, past Schommelsnaaf , where the Brungssiefen joins, and Bixnaaf , where the Hentgesnaafer Siefen flows into, to Breitenstein (all to Overath). After the tributary of the small birch brook, the brook then reaches the Overather Fischermühle , where it crosses under the state road 312 and shortly afterwards is fed by the small Siefenbach (Ölbach) .
The Naafbach then runs past the Rieserhof (Much) and the threshold baker mill (Overath), after which the Kleine Naafbach , which shortly before passes the Blindenaafermühle (Blindenaafer mill) , joins. Then it passes Büchel (zu Overath) and the Klauserhof (Much) and shortly afterwards - a little south of the Viersbrücken (Overath) located off the creek - finally flows into the Rhein-Sieg district. The stream then flows south and takes on the Holzbach (near Kuckenbach ). It then continues south to Ingersauel , curves around it in a right-hand bend, and then passes south-west Büchel , the Naafmühle and Bloch (all to Lohmar ).
After inflow of less Bach which, when something located off of both streams elections (to Neunkirchen-Seelscheid ) opens and longest R. Naafbach inflow, the R. Naafbach reaches the Weiler Kreuznaaf (to Lohmar) to after passing under the Federal Highway 484 to 66 m height in the there around from the north approach flowing victory influx Agger to lead .
On its way, the river experiences a height difference of 246 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 11 ‰.

Bullhead and brook lamprey are native to the Naafbach . In addition, the Naafbach is a Besatzbach for the reintroduction of salmon . The red kite , kingfisher , black and green woodpecker can be seen in the Naafbach valley .

Monument and nature protection
Around 1980, all properties and houses in the Naafbach valley worthy of protection were placed under monument protection. The valley - with the exception of the short section of the western Quellbach from its source to Abelsnaaf - with most of the side valleys has been placed under nature protection: There are the nature reserves Naafbachtal (founded in 1989; 852.39 ha) and Upper Naafbachtal (founded in 2005; 11.42 ha), the latter lying on the eastern source stream and along a small stream section below Abelsnaaf.
dam
In order to supply the cities of Cologne and Bonn with drinking water, plans were in progress as early as 1930 to dam the Naafbach and use it as a drinking water reservoir. As a result, major construction work in the valley was not carried out.
In 1973 there were firm plans to start construction of the dam in 1980. The commissioned agger association acquired 60 percent of the real estate there with appropriate state funds . Completion would have been announced for 1985. After public protests, the necessity of building the dam was called into question and the planning was not advanced. In 1985 the state funds for the dam were stopped, but the option of building a dam remains.
hike
The Naafbachtal is especially easy to explore on foot. The valley is crossed by the long-distance hiking trails of the Sauerland Mountain Association X22 and X29 .
