The Aggerverband is a corporation under public law and one of the eleven special water management associations in North Rhine-Westphalia . He is responsible for water management in the catchment area of ​​the Agger and is based in Gummersbach .

tasks

The Aggerverband is responsible for wastewater treatment in the Agger catchment area and operates 31 sewage treatment plants for this purpose . He is also responsible for flood protection and low water elevation. The central system for this is the Aggertalsperre , which also serves as the service water supply and offers many opportunities for recreational activities. In addition, the Aggerverband operates with the Genkeltalsperre and Wiehltalsperre two drinking water reservoirs with water plants in Auchel and alder Hagen. Here the drinking water treatment of 25 million cubic meters per year for approx. 500,000 inhabitants takes place via 20 supply companies.

Around 3000 kilometers of rivers are maintained and cared for in the area of ​​rivers.

As a service provider for the municipalities, the Aggerverband takes care of sewer and gully cleaning with modern vehicles and can carry out almost all work independently that is subject to legal regulations.

The tasks in the association area of Agger Association are the Law on Aggerverband ( Aggerverband law - governed of 15 December 1992 AggerVG):

  • Regulation of water runoff including balancing the water flow and securing the flood runoff of surface waters or sections of water and in their catchment areas;
  • Maintenance of surface waters or sections of water and the facilities functionally related to them;
  • Return of developed surface waters to a near-natural state;
  • Avoidance, reduction, elimination and compensation of water management and related ecological changes caused or expected adverse changes caused by effects on the groundwater level;
  • Procurement and provision of water for drinking and industrial water supply and for the exploitation of hydropower;
  • Wastewater disposal in accordance with the State Water Act;
  • Disposal of the waste generated during the performance of the association's tasks;
  • Avoidance, reduction, elimination and compensation of adverse changes in the surface water that have occurred or are expected to be caused by wastewater discharges or other causes;
  • Determination of the water management conditions, insofar as the association's tasks require it.
