The Lessbach is an orographically left tributary of the Naafbach in the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district and on its edge, almost 8.7 km long, running roughly southwest .

course

The Lessbach, which runs in the Bergisches Land Nature Park , arises on the southern edge of Nackhausen and feeds some fish ponds on its uppermost course to the south near Oberdorst and Kuhlen . South of Pütz , the stream bed then runs from Oberheister in a wooded valley to the southwest towards Seelscheid . The stream used to separate this place into the village of Seelscheid and Berg Seelscheid . The local flow was piped in the 1950s, but renatured over a distance of 250 m in 2015 . \

Shortly after leaving the village, the brook used to drive the village mill . Afterwards, the widening Kleinerbach runs through an uninhabited and natural valley, which is part of the Naafbachtal nature reserve . Where the bone mill used to stand there, there is now a sewage treatment plant for the villages around Rengert in the north. Subsequently, the stream turns slowly to the right and then flows around, from here the municipality boundary to Lohmar in the south and west, the spur Steinknippen of the ridge in front of the Naafbach, which descends from Seelscheid to the right of the valley, and on which the place Wahlen stands .

On its last half a kilometer, the less stream runs northwards. Before its confluence with the Naafbach, the Weegermühle stood until the 1970s . In 2012 a new bridge was built over the stream here.

Mining

Traces of old copper mines from the 16th to 18th centuries (Walpot and Wolter-Plettenberg ore mines), the remains of a stamping mill (processing plant), moats and the slag from a former copper smelter can still be found in the Kleinesbach Valley . Evidence of mining that can still be seen today are the extensive spoil heaps and buried tunnels such as the Julianen tunnel , the water solution tunnel of the Walpot mine . A small stone arch bridge between Deesem and Wahlen, which was built around 1850, was used to transport the ore to the nearest railway station.
