Deesem has been inhabited for a very long time and is often mentioned in history books with Breidt, Inger and Birk and is closely connected in the parish of Birk. The Birker Kirchweg, also called Lichweg or Leichweg , is often described in connection with Deesem.

Around 1300 an ecbert de disimize appears on an interest card from the Cäcilienstift in Cologne , in 1487 the jonge schroeder from deyssmyss . In 1503 a Hennes von Deßmes was listed in the Birker Brotherhood Book , in 1596 a Lentzen zu Diessem . Deeßem was also mentioned several times in the registers of the Bailiwicks of the Honschaft Breidt from 1646.

The maps of Erich Philipp Ploennies 1715 and Wiebeking 1793 write the village of Disum , in 1817 the name Deesem is used on the map of Tranchot . In 1829 about 160 people lived in the village. As a result of new mining operations ( Walpot, Alexander, Noeggerath mines ), the number of inhabitants rose to 190 by 1860, but these mines were abandoned after a few years, and the number of inhabitants has decreased continuously since then. In 1939 Deesem had 100 residents. Since the 1950s, the population has been increasing again, in 2010 Deesem had 190 inhabitants (local census).

A holy house from 1879 can be found in the middle of the corner of Oberdorfstrasse and Mittelstrasse. It was built in memory of the deceased married couple Peter Josef Pohl and Margarete Wacker . It is entered in the list of monuments of the city of Lohmar under the number 88.

There is a crossroads in Unterdorfstrasse. The inscription on the front reads "Anno 1924 - Erected for the glory of God by Matthias Wurms and Peter Sterzenbach". On the back is the inscription "Per crucem ad lucem".

Until August 1, 1969, the place belonged to the then independent municipality of Breidt .

In 2011 Deesem won a gold medal in the district competition Our village has a future and was nominated as the only village in the Rhein-Sieg district for the state competition.
