Location of Neuhonrath in North Rhine-Westphalia

Neuhonrath is a district of Lohmar in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

Neuhonrath is in the north of the city of Lohmar. Surrounding villages and hamlets are Agger and Naafshäuschen in the northwest, Honsbach and Hohnenberg in the north, Hähngen , Holl , Oberstehöhe and Grünenborn in the east, Saal and Heide (near Höffen) in the southeast, Höffen , Schönenberg and Wahlscheid in the south and Bachermühle and Windlöck in the west . Like Wahlscheid, Neuhonrath is also located in the Aggertal and is surrounded by wooded mountain slopes.

The Agger flows along Neuhonrath . The Honsbach, the Krebsaueler Bach and the Maarbach flow through Neuhonrath; all flow into the Agger from the orographic left bank.

history

Neuhonrath was only created in the 18th century. The place and the parish Honrath had changed to the Protestant profession in the 16th century. The few remaining Catholics were initially given the opportunity to celebrate their services in the house chapels of Schloss Auel and Haus Honsbach. With the co-initiative and the financial support of the owners of the free knight's seat in Auel and the noble estate of Honsbach, construction of a Catholic church began in 1732 opposite Honrath. The church was granted parish rights in 1738. A new settlement was built around the church called Neuhonrath.

Until August 1, 1969, the place belonged to the previously independent municipality Wahlscheid .

The half-timbered house "Am Pfarrhof 17" (monument of the city of Lohmar No. 99) was the first school building in Neuhonrath from 1820 on. Due to the growing number of pupils, a new school with an outbuilding made of Grauwacke was built in 1868. This house later housed the public Catholic library and has been used by the St. Cäcilia Neuhonrath church choir since it was closed (architectural monument of the city of Lohmar No. 100 and 101). Further up on the square, the Neuhonrath Catholic Kindergarten has found its accommodation in the building of the Neuhonrath Catholic Primary School, which was built in 1953, after the new school in Krebsaul was built in 1971.
