history

In 1166, Countess Hildegund von Meer donated a Fronhof with the church in Wahlscheid ( Walescheith ) to the nunnery she had founded in Meer, today Meerbusch and other properties . The monastery and its possessions were subordinate to the provost of the Steinfeld monastery. About 30 dependent farms in the nearby towns belonged to the farm. Their owners appeared at the court court, which was directed by Steinfeld monks. A small settlement called the Mönchhof developed around the Fronhof. The farm was run by Halfen , who remained Catholic during the Reformation , when the majority of the residents of the Wahlscheid parish accepted the teachings of Martin Luther and the pastor's position fell to a pastor of the Augsburg denomination .

Since 1643, the Dünnwald monastery , a Steinfeld priory, had the supervision of the Mönchhof. In 1718, Baron von Bronkhorst acquired the Münchhof in an exchange of goods, which his widow sold to commoners in 1731. The court court, which was run by the owners of the court, took place under Napoléon until the previous courts were abolished .

After the reorganization of the administration in 1808, Wahlscheid became a municipality , in Prussian times a mayor's office . The mayor's office was in the home of the mayor and former Maires in Münchhof. One of his descendants built a new residential building, which is now a listed building, which remained the mayor's office of the mayor's office in Wahlscheid until 1924.

Until August 1, 1969, the place belonged to the previously independent municipality Wahlscheid .
