Birken is a hamlet that belongs to the town of Lohmar in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

Birken lies in the northwest of Lohmar. Surrounding villages and hamlets are Honrath in the north, Burg Honrath , Agger and Naafshäuschen in the northeast, Gut Windlöck in the east, Schloss Auel and Gut Rosauel in the southeast, Wahlscheid in the south, Scheid and Weilerhohn in the southwest, Heiden and Stumpf in the west and Meinenbroich in the northwest .

The Birker Bach (2.4 km long) has its source north of Birken and the Steffenbach flows south. Both are orographically right tributaries of the Agger .

history

In 1885 the hamlet "Oberste Birken" had 44 inhabitants who lived in eight houses; "Unterste Birken" was a single house with seven residents.

Until 1969, Birken belonged to the previously independent municipality of Wahlscheid .
