Postage stamps from 1944 from the Deutsche Reichspost
The 1944 stamp year of the Deutsche Reichspost comprised 42 special stamps , all of which had a surcharge . The final stamp of 42 Reichspfennig appeared in the definitive series of Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler . There is no reliable information on the circulation of the stamps . Due to the war, the Reich Post Ministry decided that all postage stamps would remain valid until further notice . The stamps were therefore valid until the surrender in May 1945 . For this year, the use of a collector's pass for the special stamp purchase is proven.
While the country's name was previously the German Reich , all new stamps were given the name Greater German Reich, with the exception of Michel numbers 888 to 893, as these motifs had already been issued in different values and colors in the sets of the comradeship block in 1939 and 1941.
