Postage stamps from 1939 issued by the Deutsche Reichspost
The 1939 postage stamps issued by the Deutsche Reichspost comprised 41 special stamps , most of which had a surcharge . Some stamps had an additional overprint for a special occasion. Definitive stamps were not originally intended.
With the beginning of the Second World War on September 1 and the reintegration of the city of Danzig into the German Empire, 14 original values of the Free City of Danzig were issued with imprint on September 28 . As early as September 18, there were two special stamps in the Reich that referred to the event “Danzig is German”, which would be an impressive achievement if the preparations for design and printing did not begin until after the outbreak of war.
There is no reliable information on the circulation of the stamps.
