Postage stamps from 1880 issued by the Deutsche Reichspost

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1880 postage stamps issued by the Deutsche Reichspost comprised six definitive stamps from the “Numbers / Eagle in Oval” series . This was already published from 1875 with the inscription "PFENNIGE" - replaced from 1880 by "PFENNIG".

There is no reliable information on the date of first issue or the number of copies of the stamps. The next reissues of stamps did not take place until 1889; the stamps were also valid until January 31, 1891. The volume of mail items rose from 808 million items in 1880 to 1,583 million in 1890.

Notes: The fees for the mail between January 1, 1875 and June 30, 1906 were:

  • Postcards: 5 pfennigs
  • Long-distance letters: 10 pfennigs (up to 20 g) and 20 pfennigs (up to 250 g)
  • Registered mail: 20 pfennigs
  • Return receipt: 20 pfennigs

For the classification of the remaining purchasing power at that time, see article: Mark (1871) .
