Postage stamps from 1889 issued by the Deutsche Reichspost

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1889 postage stamps issued by the Deutsche Reichspost comprised six definitive stamps from the “Krone / Adler” series .

These were the first new motifs after the 1880 edition. They were not changed in the following ten years until 1899. There is no reliable information on the number of copies. The next reissue took place in January 1900. The stamps could be used for franking from 1889 to January 31, 1902.

Notes: The fees for the mail between January 1, 1875 and June 30, 1906 were:

  • Postcards: 5 pfennigs
  • Long-distance letters: 10 pfennigs (up to 20 g) and 20 pfennigs (up to 250 g)
  • Registered mail: 20 pfennigs
  • Return receipt: 20 pfennigs

For the classification of the remaining purchasing power at that time, see article: Mark (1871) . One mark would correspond to today's purchasing power of 6.96 euros.
