Postage stamp issues for the Generalgouvernement
The stamp issues of the Generalgouvernement , the German occupied Polish territory from 1939 to 1945 , were issued from December 1, 1939. Initially with a number of stamps from the German Empire from the Hindenburg medallion series with Deutsche Post Osten overprint , then from March 1940 on variants of overprints on originally Polish stamps and finally from August 5, 1940 with completely separate stamps Generalgouvernement. The last three editions planned for the end of 1944 or 1945 were no longer issued.
The total of 119 stamps are divided into 78 definitive stamps and 41 special stamps . There are also the three above-mentioned no longer issued stamps and three series with a total of 36 official stamps and four delivery stamps .
