Auel Castle is in the north of the city of Lohmar . It has been documented since 1391. Today it is run as a hotel with an attached golf course.

history

To the north of Wahlscheid is Auel Castle, which was first mentioned in 1391 as a moated castle under Peter van Auel. Later it was called as the family seat of the Auel (also: "von, vam Mauel", i.e. "von dem Auel") by Meuchen and those of Proff zu Menden .

The current main house was built in 1763. Since Philippe de la Valette's marriage to Franziska von Broe in 1818, Auel Castle has been owned by the von La Valette-St. George.

The family, which came from the French nobility, names the Grand Master of the Order of St. John and later the Order of Malta, Jean de la Valette , as their most famous offspring . In 1565 he successfully defended the island of Malta against the attack of the Ottomans under Soliman II. The capital Valletta , which he founded and largely built, was named in his honor .

Schloss Auel has been run as a hotel and restaurant since 1951. A golf course with a public bistro is also attached. With its own castle chapel (Sankt Johannes Nepomuk), Auel Castle is known as a place for weddings and baptisms.

Schloss Auel is located directly on the federal highway 484 . It is connected to public transport via line 557 (Siegburg - Lohmar - Donrath - Wahlscheid - Overath) and line 558 (Siegburg - Lohmar - Donrath - Scheiderhöhe - Durbusch - Wahlscheid) .
