Kriegshoven Castle

The Kriegshoven Castle is an old chestnut avenue to reach Wasserburg approximately one kilometer northwest of the village Heimerzheim in Rhein-Sieg-Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The exact date of foundation is not known, but the Lords of Kriegshoven were first mentioned in writing as early as the middle of the 13th century. The collegiate sexton of St. Kunibert transferred a pond to the owner Heinrich von Creshovin in 1247. The preserved core of the castle, a two-story angular structure, dates back to the 16th century. The corresponding impression of a Renaissance castle is still effective today.

A portrait of the building complex from the middle of the 19th century shows neo-Gothic designs in the fashionable style of historicism.

Subsequently, the castle often changed hands. In 1868, the senior government councilor Emil Wülfing acquired the moated castle and expanded the mansion to a three-winged complex in baroque forms by 1869 . After his death, the castle passed into the possession of his son of the same name. The younger Emil von Wülfing's successor was his son-in-law Fritz Albert Eugen von Scherenberg , who was married to Maria von Wülfing. Kriegshoven Castle is still owned by the von Scherenberg family today.

Parts of the moat of the castle complex were filled in at the end of the 19th century.
