The castle Wissem , formerly also called free aristocratic and parliamentary farm "Wiesheim", is a castle in Troisdorf-Mitte . The courtyard, originally built as a moated castle , dates back to the Carolingian period.

Wissem is an elongated rectangular system open on the west side, the water barrier of which is only partially preserved today. Two corner towers corresponding in the diagonal complement the facility. The manor house was built after 1840 and was renovated and restored in 1954/1955. It is located on the south side of the complex and was built as a two-storey classical plastered building.

A long quarry stone wing from around 1550 occupies the east side. Here, in the Remise, exhibitions and concerts take place regularly. The 18th century brick wings on the north and west sides, damaged in the war, were replaced by new buildings in 1962; The gabled Hausstein portal from 1741 on a newly built gate was preserved. The public funding from the Regionale 2010 enabled a renovation and new construction of the west wing between 2010 and 2012.

history

The first named owner was Rembold von Plettenberg in 1435 . By inheritance, the property passed from the Plettenbergs to Johann from the von Zweiffel family in 1511 . His son Caspar had the Wissem house renovated from 1548 and built the so-called outer bailey , which has been preserved to this day. Through the marriage of Johann Franz Gerhard von Cortenbach to Anna Klara von Zweiffel, the property came into the possession of the von Cortenbach family in 1646, in 1784 through an inheritance contract to Johann Ernst von Landsberg zu Olpe, then to Franz Bernhard von Hocherbach. In 1826 Friedrich von Hövel inherited the castle and sold it to Ernst August von Beust after two years . Baron Clemens von Loë acquired the property from him in 1833. His descendant Maria von Loë, married Baroness von Elverfeldt, sold Wissem Castle in 1939 to the Troisdorf community. From 1945 to 1981 the house served as the town hall.

use

Since 1982, Wissem Castle has housed the only museum for picture book art and illustration for young people in Europe . The museum's illustration collection provides an overview of the most important trends and styles in picture book illustration over the past 100 years. In 2001/2002 the tower room of the castle was expanded with the help of financial support from Heinz Murmann and the Geerte-Murmann-Schmökerstube for children was set up there as part of the museum.

In 2002, on the initiative of the Troisdorf creative workshop, a field of experience for developing the senses was created in the park . Based on ideas from Hugo Kükelhaus, the human senses can be sharpened at the fourteen stations .

In 2012 this cultural offer was expanded. As part of the Regionale 2010 , a portal came to Wahner Heide , the “Museum for Urban and Industrial History Troisdorf” (MUSIT), KennenLernenUmwelt (KLU), a new wedding room, the creative workshop, rooms for the local history and history association, the “Heinz Müller Foundation ”, a restaurant and the tourist information office. The literature and art workshop attached to the picture book museum offers extracurricular programs to primary schools in the region as part of the KennenLernenUmwelt project .

The west wing is now home to the portal to the Wahner Heide, which brings visitors closer to the nature reserve with the exhibition Nature tells story (s) , specialist lectures and an information desk .
