The Alfter hill moth , also known as the Old Castle , is an abandoned ring wall at 153  m above sea level. NHN on the foothills in the municipality of Alfter , in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The castle hill and the remains of a moat still bear witness to the early medieval hilltop castle of the moth type (tower hill castle) . The remains are classified as a ground monument.

Geographical location

The Erdwallanlage, a former refugee castle (probably a refuge for the inmates of the Alfterer Burg ) is located between Görreshof Street in the south and Buchholzweg in the north (south of Buchholz Manor ). The system has the shape of an ellipse, the major axis of which runs in an east-west direction. The axes behave roughly like 3: 2. The earth wall is approx. 90 m long, the area accordingly approx. 600 m² (product of the number of circles and the two semi-axes, ie approx. 3.14 × 17 × 11 m²). The rampart and moat of the Fliehburg are still well defined, the slope angle is approx. 30 ° and the height difference between the bottom of the trench and the crest of the rampart is approx. 5 m (the ditch is around 2 m deep). The south side drops steeply towards the Görreshof and thus offers natural protection.
