The castle Reiterndorf is an Outbound castle in Bad Honnef , a city in North Rhine-Westphalia Rhein-Sieg-Kreis . The foundations of the castle , which was the center of a village, have been preserved. They are located on the edge of the center-west of the main road in the park Reiterndorf and available as ground monument under monument protection .

history

In 866 the place Reitersdorf was mentioned as villa rateresthorp , in 893 as Retersdorpht . This makes Reitersdorf the oldest visible traces of the city of Bad Honnef. In the copy of the Prümer Urbar from 1222 it is mentioned as a messenger station of the local abbey. The castle was built from 1270 by Johann von Heinsberg, who presumably found a replacement for the Löwenburg in it, from which he was expelled. The settlement, which also included a “ St. Göddert ” church that was built together with the castle , was located near the Rhine to the west of the castle. In 1288 the castle was named " Castrum Reyterstorp", a fiefdom of Count von Jülich, who had it expanded. In 1317, the castle and settlement were largely destroyed by razing by the Archbishop of Cologne, an opponent of Count von Jülich, in an act of war. It was last mentioned in 1517 as "Rettersdorf".

The remains of the castle, especially the walls, served as a cellar and stables in the following centuries . Parts of the subsequently filled in remains were dug up again in 1872 when General von Seidlitz had a stately villa built there. After the so-called Villa Bredt-Lipp (Hauptstraße 6) and the surrounding property passed into the ownership of the city of Bad Honnef and was demolished in 1974 for the (unrealized) construction of a health clinic, the ruins were dug up again in 1980. The foundations were restored and have since been freely accessible in a publicly accessible area, Park Reitersdorf . With a ginkgo it contains a rare single tree. In 2009 efforts were made to renovate the park, which was in need of renovation, including the castle, a stone fountain, a pergola and a pond. The renovation of the pergola took place in 2012. The renovation of the castle ruins began in March 2017.

The name of the park Reitersdorf , the street names Reitersdorfer Straße (since 1948) and An St. Göddert as well as an information board created by the Königswinter sculptor Sigrid Wenzel next to the stairs are reminiscent of the former village of Reitersdorf to the castle ruins.

Castle

An unfinished moat surrounded Reitersdorf Castle , which was built as a fort . It was probably built in two phases. Its wall ring, lined by four round corner towers, with the approximate dimensions of 25 by 25 m originally enclosed a square, stone residential tower , which was probably surrounded by a picket fence. At last there was a rectangular building. One is on the east side Vorburg suspected.
