August Haag (local history researcher)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

August Haag (born August 17, 1890 in Euskirchen , † August 29, 1975 ) was a German high school teacher and local researcher who dealt with the history of the city of Bad Honnef .

Life

Haag attended high school in his home town of Euskirchen. After studying for five semesters at the University of Freiburg and one semester at the University of Bonn , he was in 1912 in Freiburg to Dr. phil. PhD . He was from January 1918 teacher at the High School in Honnef , where he taught Latin. During the Second World War , Haag was called up to the Siegfried Line. When the school reopened after the war in October 1945, he was appointed acting headmaster and on October 1, 1946, he was confirmed in this position with the appointment of senior director . One of his students was the later bookseller and local researcher Karl Günter Werber . Haag's retirement took place in February 1956.

When the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Rhöndorf was founded in 1954, Haag was elected deputy chairman. When the association was renamed in 1957 due to the expansion of its field of work to include the entire city area into the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein - Herrschaft Löwenburg - in Bad Honnef am Rhein , he became chairman. Haag had a long-standing acquaintance with the Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer , who lived in Rhöndorf and who was the initiator of the association.

Haag lived in the house at Frankenweg 58 (formerly Clarastraße ). Remains of early Franconian graves were repeatedly found on the road, including a. also in the garden of his house in August 1936. Because of this burial site, the street was named Frankenweg in 1946 on the initiative of Haag .
