Karl Günter Werber

Karl Günter Werber (born December 3, 1929 - † October 25, 2013 ) was a German German philologist , bookseller and local researcher who dealt with the history of his hometown Bad Honnef .

Life

Werber attended the Realgymnasium (today's Siebengebirgsgymnasium ) in his hometown of Honnef and passed his Abitur there in 1951; one of his teachers there was the local researcher August Haag . He then studied German at the University of Bonn . There he was in 1959 with a thesis on the work of Stefan Andres to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1972, after the death of his father in the third generation, Werber took over the bookstore founded by his grandfather in 1887 in his parents' house in Gutenberg . Under his leadership, the supply of stationery and office items was reduced in favor of specialist literature and fiction; He also organized book reviews and readings as well as his own lectures on local history. In 2012 Werber gave up the bookstore and sold the Gutenberg house.

Between 1952 and 1984, Werber volunteered as an expert citizen in the culture and library committee of the city council of Bad Honnef. In 1959 he was one of the co-founders of the Bad Honnef cultural ring , where he was a finance administrator and board member for decades. He also served on the board of the St. Johann Baptist parish for 18 years . For more than 50 years, Werber was a board member of the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Herrschaft Löwenburg e. V. He is the author of numerous books and publications on city history.

Werber died in 2013 after a serious illness. He was buried in the old cemetery in his hometown.
