Johann Joseph Brungs (also just Joseph Brungs ; born September 21, 1853 in Honnef , † November 29, 1942 ibid) was a German high school teacher and local researcher .

Life

Johann Joseph Brungs came from a family of winemakers in the Selhof district of Honnef, which has been proven for centuries . He studied philology at the University of Bonn . As a grammar school teacher, Brungs worked at the Thomaeum grammar school in Kempen on the Lower Rhine . Emmerich on the Lower Rhine and Cologne are known as other places of activity .

Brungs is the author of the book The City of Honnef and its History , published in 1925 on the occasion of the millennium of the Rhineland and the 600th anniversary of the St. Sebastianus Schützenverein Honnef , the first comprehensive account of the history of the city. He spent his retirement in Honnef, where he lived from 1919 to 1942 in Weyermannallee 1a ("Villa Martha"). On November 10, 2001, a memorial plaque with a portrait relief in memory of Brungs, donated by the Stadtsparkasse Bad Honnef and created by the Königswinter sculptor Sigrid Wenzel , was unveiled. In addition, Joseph-Brungs-Strasse in the Selhof district is named after him.
