Wilhelm W. Hamacher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm W. Hamacher (born March 21, 1930 in Titz ; † October 23, 2004 ) was a German municipal official and local history researcher who dealt with the history of the city of Bad Honnef .

Life

Professional background

Hamacher attended elementary school and then a commercial school. He began an administration apprenticeship at the municipal administration in Titz. In 1964 Hamacher moved to the city administration of Bad Honnef, where he initially headed the social department and later, as a result of a serious heart disease, took over the management of the school and culture department. In this role as city councilor , Hamacher retired in June 1992. As a part-time job, he was a lecturer in social policy at the Catholic Social Institute of the Archdiocese of Cologne in Bad Honnef for more than 20 years . Hamacher was also the deputy chairman of the komba district association Rhein-Sieg.

Volunteering

Hamacher was a member of several parish councils in Bad Honnef. In addition, he worked between 1967 and 1991 as managing director of the Bad Honnef branch in the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge ; for this commitment he was awarded the silver and gold badge of honor and the association's plaque of merit.

Hamacher's commitment to local history essentially began in the 1980s and was able to intensify it after his retirement. From 1993 he was the executive chairman of the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein “Herrschaft Löwenburg” eV . Some publications on the city's history go back to him; he also produced and moderated numerous audio shows. Among other things, he discovered the first documentary mention of today's Aegidienberg district . For more than two decades, Hamacher devoted himself to the history of the Löwenburg and its masters and worked right up to the end on a book about them, which was published posthumously.

"Since Wilhelm W. Hamacher can unfortunately no longer witness the public presentation of his life's work, I posthumously express my thanks and appreciation for his excellent research."

Death and inheritance

Hamacher died on October 23, 2004 after a long illness. He left behind his wife and two children. In August 2010, Hamacher's widow gave his legacy of historical research as a foundation to the Bad Honnef Spa and Tourist Association (KVV).
