The komba union is the only German trade union for civil servants and employees of the municipalities, their privatized service companies and those working in the state service. It is democratic, politically independent and decentrally organized in 16 state unions and other member unions. Federal Chairman has been Andreas Hemsing since December 2017.

With around 90,000 members, the komba union is one of the largest unions in the DBB Beamtenbund and Tarifunion . The state association of North Rhine-Westphalia , also under the direction of Andreas Hemsing, is the largest state association in the komba with around 40,000 members.

history

The federal association of komba was entered in the register of associations on July 8, 1920 as the Reich Association of Local Officials and Employees . Several forerunner unions at the state and provincial level, which were founded at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, have joined forces. The most important state association was the Association of Urban Officials of the Province of Brandenburg , which was founded on December 17, 1893. This date is considered to be the birth of the komba union.

At the time of National Socialism the union was dissolved.

In Prussia , the union was re-established on May 12, 1945, but this was suppressed by the occupying powers. In the west of Prussia a new regional association was finally established on January 15, 1949. At the federal level, from 1951 onwards, the union was called the Federation of German Municipal Officials and Employees. The employers recognized the tariff eligibility on October 10, 1951.

In the 1950s, the komba joined forces with other organizations in order to found the association of tariff-eligible associations in the German Civil Service Association on July 3, 1956 , from which the DBB Civil Service Association and Tariff Union emerged.

After the reunification , regional associations were also founded in the new federal states, so that associations existed in all federal states. At the beginning of 2004, the Berlin State Association filed for bankruptcy and was excluded. The gkl berlin , which is a member of the DBB, was newly founded .
