The VBE - Association of Education and Upbringing is the largest trade union within the dbb German civil service association with around 164,000 members. It mainly organizes educators and teachers at elementary , secondary , secondary , special and comprehensive schools , but also at other types of schools in Germany.
aims
Justice through education is the declared aim of the VBE. This goal is to be achieved with the commitment to strengthening the teaching profession in society, recognizing the equivalence of teaching posts and equal pay for all educators regardless of the type of school. Training at universities of applied sciences at European level is required for educators.

The Federal Assembly of the VBE elected the current board members in 2010:

They were re-elected in 2013 and 2016.

Because school policy falls under the cultural sovereignty of the federal states due to federalism , the VBE is particularly active in the state governments through its 16 regional associations. Some of these use separate names.

The young VBE organizes students, trainee teachers, trainee teachers and young teachers.
International
The VBE is a founding member of the Education International (EI Education International), a global association of education unions and teachers' organizations.
Events
The VBE - Association of Education and Upbringing, together with three VBE regional associations, the Verband Bildungsmedien e. V. and the Leipzig Book Fair organized the German Teachers' Day. Together with the information service provider Wolters Kluwer Germany, the VBE organizes the German School Directors Congress and the German Kita Management Congress.
