Udo Beckmann (born April 28, 1952 in Menden (Sauerland) - Oberrödinghausen ) is a German trade unionist .

Professional background

Beckmann studied from 1972 to 1975 to teach at primary and secondary schools at the Dortmund University of Education. His subjects were physics , mathematics and biology . He completed his legal clerkship from February 1, 1975 to January 31, 1976 at a secondary school in Cologne . In 1977 he entered the school service. He initially worked at secondary schools in Frechen and Menden (Sauerland) . From 1990 to 1996 he was vice principal at a full-time secondary school in Hemer . From 1996 to 2005 he ran a secondary school in a socially deprived area in Dortmund .

Association of Education and Training

In 1979 Beckmann joined the Association for Education and Upbringing (VBE) as a member. From 1980 to 1984 he was district spokesman for the working group of young teachers (AdJ) in the VBE district association in Arnsberg. From 1984 to 1988 he was state spokesman for the AdJ in North Rhine-Westphalia . In the autumn of 1988 he became deputy chairman in the area of ​​public relations and a member of the executive board of the VBE North Rhine-Westphalia. In autumn 1996 he was elected VBE state chairman for the first time. After 21 years in this position, he stopped running in autumn 2017 and handed over the office to his successor, Stefan Behlau.

In 1998 Beckmann was elected for the first time as deputy federal chairman of the VBE. Since March 2009 he has been the VBE federal chairman.

From 1987 he is a permanent member of the main staff council for teachers at elementary and secondary schools (until 2008) and for secondary schools (from 2008) in North Rhine-Westphalia. He is currently Deputy Chairman of the Main Staff Council.

Beckmann has been a member of the federal board of the German Association of Civil Servants since 2009 .
