The Valdez Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska 11 km east of Valdez .
geography
The 32 km long valley glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 1,800 m in the Chugach Mountains on the southeast flank of Mount Cashman . The glacier, which has an average width of 1.4 km, initially flows eastwards and soon turns south. Below the glacier tongue is a 1.8 km long glacial edge lake at an altitude of 69 m . This is drained via the 6.5 km long Valdez Glacier Stream to the head end of Port Valdez , a bay of Prince William Sound .
Glacier development
Like many other glaciers in the region, the Valdez Glacier is in retreat. The area of the glacier edge lake has doubled in the last few decades.
