The Federal Association of Teachers at Business Schools (VLW) is a trade union for vocational schools and vocational schools . The VLW is a union in the dbb German Beamtenbund . It is also a member of the German Teachers' Association (DL) and works with the SIEC , the international association for commercial schools.
As a trade union, the VLW is primarily committed to appropriate working conditions for teachers at commercial schools and their performance-based pay and career prospects. Together with the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chambers of Crafts, he campaigns for the maintenance and further development of dual vocational training in Germany.

The association emerged from the “Association of German Graduate Trade Teachers e. V. ”. In 2008 the 100th anniversary of the association and its regional predecessor institutions was celebrated.
The approximately 18,000 members of the VLW are directly represented by the 16 regional associations, which do not always operate under the name VLW , which is partly due to the mergers of various regional associations such as B. the responsible associations from the industrial and commercial sector.
In Hessen, for example, VLW and BLBS joined the GLB, the general association of teachers at vocational schools in Hessen e. V., together. In Hamburg, the VLW is a department in the German Teachers Association Hamburg.
From April 2018, after lengthy negotiations at the federal level, the vocational school teacher associations VLW and BLBS merged to form the new Federal Association of Teachers for Vocational Training (BvLB). The VLW at the federal level ends its existence - a few regional associations, e.g. B. in North Rhine-Westphalia, will continue to exist independently.
Fields of work
As part of its career policy, the association issues numerous statements on vocational training in Germany. He represents the specific interests of teachers in business schools . He is in favor of equal rights for vocational school and company and for the further development of full-time commercial schools.
The association publishes a scientific journal with business and education .
Together with sponsors from trade and politics, the Foundation for Business and Education , Karlsruhe, was founded in 2002 , which awards prizes to promote business education, business schools and commercial vocational training: the business education award and the vocational school award.
