The Federal Association of Teachers for Vocational Training (BvLB) is a trade union for vocational training. It represents the interests of 38,000 teachers in vocational training and is a trade union in the dbb beamtenbund and tarifunion as well as one of the four member associations in the German Teachers' Association (DL).
history
It was founded on April 11, 2018 through the merger of the Federal Association of Teachers at Business Schools and the Federal Association of Teachers at Vocational Schools . Both professional associations look back on a long tradition.
The VLW was founded in 1908 as an association of Prussian commercial teachers with commercial college education. In 1911 it was renamed the Association of German Commercial Teachers and in 1927 the Reich Association of German Commercial Teachers with Higher Education . After the seizure of power in 1933, the association was forcibly integrated into the Nazi teachers association. In 1948 it was re-established as the Association of German Graduate Business Teachers . The last name change to the Association of Teachers at Business Schools e. V. took place in 1973. The VLW saw itself as a special representation of the interests of the teaching staff at commercial schools.
The BLBS was founded on May 31, 1950 and represented the interests of teachers in the educational fields of electrical engineering, metal technology, construction, paint and wood technology, automotive technology, printing technology, social and health services, care, personal care, housekeeping and nutrition in professional matters Schools.
As a result of the merger, the BvLB is the largest teachers' association in the field of vocational training.
Fields of work
School and education policy
The BvLB advocates the further development of the vocational school system, taking into account technological and organizational developments such as digitization, inclusion and immigration. As a representative of the dbb beamtenbund and tarifunion, the BvLB is a member of the main committee of the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB).
Teacher training
The association sees the central challenge in adequately supplying vocational schools with well-qualified teachers. He therefore calls for an improvement in the attractiveness and reputation of teaching posts for vocational schools, special measures to cover the need for teaching staff and an expansion of continuing education and training for teachers.
Service and collective bargaining law
The association represents the members in service and labor law issues. He is committed to maintaining the civil servant status and calls for an appropriate pay and pension system in order to be able to attract qualified teachers for the professional field.
Publications
The association publishes the trade journal Bildung und Beruf ten times a year . In press releases, he regularly takes a position on current educational policy issues.
