The Bavarian Teachers' Association (BLLV) is the largest professional organization of educators in Bavaria with over 61,000 members and is based in a villa at Bavariaring 37 in Munich . In the BLLV, teachers of all types of schools as well as the professions from the social and educational service (e.g. kindergarten teachers) are organized.

The association is divided into 163 district associations, nine district associations and the regional association. Every four years, the president and a further 12 members of the state board are elected at a state delegate meeting, in which almost 600 delegates take part. The BLLV represents a professional understanding that differs from that of other teachers' associations. He sees the pedagogical task as the core of the teaching profession; the subject areas taught by the teacher are important in the BLLV's understanding of the profession, but not central. In addition to the active teaching staff, more than 9,000 student teachers and about the same number of retired teachers are members.

history

The association goes back to the General Teachers' Association for Baiern , which was founded in Nuremberg in 1823, but was banned shortly afterwards. In 1861 it was re-established as the Bavarian Teachers' Association in Regensburg and - apart from a short period during the Nazi dictatorship - is active in educational policy. Between 1898 and 1933, the teachers were still mostly organized in the Bavarian Teachers' Association. By 1938, all teachers 'associations were accepted into the Nazi teachers' union . In 1946 new teachers' associations were founded, most of which joined the FSVO by 1951, which therefore adopted the current name for both genders.

For historical reasons, the majority of the members are elementary, secondary and special school teachers. Since it was opened to teachers of all types of schools in 2001, many secondary and high school teachers have also become members of the association. In 2011 the BLLV celebrated its 150th anniversary. There is competition above all with the German Association of Philologists and the GEW , but also with denominational teachers' associations.

Program

The association represents a "pedagogical education policy". He calls for a significant reduction in the transfer pressure by releasing the parents' will and by developing an attractive alternative to grammar school. He advocates more intensive cooperation between the different types of schools, which in rural regions can also lead to a merging of secondary and secondary schools. For the grammar school he calls for a stronger pedagogical orientation. He advocates inclusion, but warns against a premature abolition of special needs schools. On the contrary, he sees in them the potential of becoming centers for advising general schools on all questions of special needs. The BLLV criticizes the isolation of the different types of schools and the teachers who teach them from one another and advocates a cross-school understanding of the profession.

Service and humanitarian commitment

The association has several service facilities, including a legal department with three fully qualified lawyers, an institute for health in educational professions, the BLLV academy, the business and travel service. He publishes the magazine Bayerische Schule and the periodical 60 and more . Over 1500 volunteers work in the BLLV. 35 full-time employees work in the Munich office.

The BLLV is also committed to humanitarian: As part of BLLV Children help he funded a children's home and a training institution in Peru and the school breakfast conceivable for needy children in Bavaria.

Political activities

The association actively contributes the opinion of its members to the political process. He participates in public hearing processes, regularly formulates petitions and other submissions, and is in constant contact with the responsible decision-makers in politics, the ministries and authorities. In addition, he regularly carries out scientific studies and member surveys on specific topics in order to convey the opinions of the grassroots to the public and to bring them to the political level. The political instruments also include signature campaigns and high-profile campaigns.
