history
Pastor Peter Herkenrath laid the foundation stone for the Volksbank Bonn Rhein-Sieg. As president of the Bonn journeyman's association, he hoped for economic independence for the craft by founding a journeyman's savings bank. In 1901, the “Handwerkerbank zu Bonn eGmbH” was entered in the register of cooperatives at the Bonn District Court. Just two years later, the name was changed to "Volksbank in Bonn eGmbH".
1971 began a phase of mergers with and takeover of neighboring cooperative banks. Since the incorporation of the Raiffeisenbank Königswinter and the Eitorfer Raiffeisenbank in 1995, the bank has had its current name. In 1996 the Volksbank Hennef and two years later the Raiffeisenbank Vorgebirge in Bornheim-Roisdorf were added. In 1999, the Volksbank Siebengebirge eG , based in Bad Honnef, was incorporated, the area of which was retained as a regional directorate. In 2001, Volksbank Bonn Rhein-Sieg moved into a newly built headquarters in the Hochkreuz district of Bonn . Today it is the largest cooperative bank in the region.
In June 2017, the savings and loan fund Aegidienberg eG , based in Bad Honnef-Aegidienberg, was merged with Volksbank Bonn Rhein-Sieg.
The merger with Kölner Bank eG to form the new Volksbank Köln Bonn eG took place retrospectively as of January 1, 2017 . The new bank looks after 113,000 members and 215,000 customers, employs 944 people and has total assets of EUR 4.8 billion.

The Volksbank was present with 487 employees in 43 locations in the region (27 branches, 9 self-service points and six ATMs outside of branches).
Social Commitment
Volksbank Bonn Rhein-Sieg has awarded an innovation prize worth € 25,000 every two years since 1999.
The establishment of a solidarity fund of Volksbank Bonn Rhein-Sieg eG, which was decided in 2012, was an expression of the special support of the members.
Corporate Design
In 2010, with the support of the internationally renowned artist group Eboy, the bank captured the landmarks as well as life on the Rhine and Victory in the "pixel art" style. The now valid corporate design of Volksbank Bonn Rhein Sieg eG resulted from the original advertising campaign “Only we are Bonn Rhein-Sieg” with the “We motif” .
